CFAC attack on Ritter get's national attention

Christian Family Alliance of Colorado has gotten national attention for their petition drive to force Governor Bill Ritter to respect Article V Section 50 of the Colorado Constitution which prohibits "direct" and "indirect" use of state funds to provide abortions.

Ritter has announced he intends to restore state funding to abortion groups like Planned Parenthood, in direct violation of the Colorado Constitution. Colorado State Senator Scott Renfroe (R - Eaton) has joined with CFAC in this important fight. Last legislative session, Renfroe's SB07-143 was the first legislation ever introduce in the Colorado Assembly to ban abortions in Colorado.

From WorldNetDaily:

"The reality is that Bill Ritter has never backed down from his promise to put money into Planned Parenthood," Mark Hotaling, the director of the Christian Family Alliance, told WND.

He explained that the budget the state currently is operating on was established mostly by the former governor before he left office.

Especially, he noted the state's "family planning" money was committed to other organizations that are operating under contracts already in existence. Ritter, when he made the statements about having taxpayers support Planned Parenthood's operations financially, meant it, and he still means it, Hotaling said.

"The governor had to appease the radical left of his party, and made certain promises. One of them he made repeatedly was to restore money to Planned Parenthood," Hotaling said."The reason he couldn't to do last legislative session was the timing of grants and the lack of funds in the state family planning fund," he said.

"But there's nothing to prohibit him from doing it in the next session, when more money can be put into the fund."He said the public needs to rise up and let the governor know of its opposition to taxpayer funding for the abortion industry.

More:

Joining in the Colorado Family Alliance campaign is state Sen. Scott Renfroe, who told WND that he's "gravely concerned" about Ritter's announced plans.

He said he's asked the governor, "How are you going to do this, and uphold the constitution and the will of the people?" "I guess time will tell if he does do something," he said.

Renfroe told WND that a campaign letter has been sent to constituents seeking support. "I am saddened and appalled that Gov. Ritter assumes that part of our tax money already belongs to Colorado's largest abortionist," he wrote. "And with pro-abortion liberals in control of the State Legislature, our only hope is to turn to the good sense and actions of citizens … to help stop this injustice."

Conservatives slap Schwartz

Yesterday, the now infamous HB07-1174 (We're coming for your guns and we'll be back for you Bible later) passed the Senate on Third Reading.

The Republican Caucus, who stood up in support of the right to keep and bear arms, were joined by Sen. Lois Tochtrop and Sen. Jim Isgar.

However there was some funny business with the bill, as reported by the Republican Study Committee of Colorado (RSCC) and ColoradoSenateNews.Com.

From the RSCC:

Senate observers believed HB07-1174 to be dead when it failed on a 2nd reading vote in the Senate. However Democrat leadership strong-armed the deciding vote, Democrat Senator Gail Schwartz (Snowmass Village) into flip-flopping and voting against the interests of her rural constituents.

“Party politics has taken center stage in the Senate, over the interests of the people of Colorado,” stated Senator Scott Renfroe (R – Eaton), a member of the Republican Study Committee of Colorado (RSCC). “It’s sad that Senator Schwartz would put the priorities of the gun-grabbing Democrat leadership ahead of representing the rural values of her district.”

Gail Schwartz better be looking over her shoulder come election time in 2010.

Money Quotes:

From ColoradoSenateNews.Com, Senator Greg Brophy (R-Wray) on Gail Schwartz flip-flop:

In comments after the debate, Brophy added, “At least Sen. Morse has been consistent and honest in his contempt for gun-owners. I'm disappointed in Sen. Schwartz for actually voting for the bill after she voted against it."

It is note worthy that the Colorado Springs Gazette, the paper of record for Morse' district called him out in an editorial on Sunday for his backward stance on gun rights.

We also urge Morse to stop thinking and acting as if he’s still on the police force, take a refresher course on the Constitution and try to see the world through the eyes of his non-cop constituents, who have civil liberties that need to be protected.

From the RSCC:

“The true irony of this session is that the Democrats accuse conservatives of only caring about God, gays and guns. Yet one hallmark of this session has been a stream of bills introduced by prominent Democrats with an anti-God, anti-gun, and pro-gay slant,” concluded Lambert.

Does your county sheriff hate freedom?

Thanks to the diligent, no-compromise efforts of Senator Scott Renfore (R-Greeley) and Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, we now know which county sheriffs love freedom.

It has long been the practice of many county sheriffs to enter conceal carry permit holders into the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) criminal database. This practice, while allowed by state statute, is clearly a form of gun registry and violates some of our most basic and Constitutionally guaranteed rights.

HB07-1174 "We're coming for your guns now, and we'll be back for your Bible later"
would codify this un-constitutional practice, and is expected to be heard on 2nd reading in the senate, some time this week.

Read more about concealed carry issues and the CBI database here [Thanks to RMGO!].

Wednesday's Warrior

Yes, it is indeed that time of the week where we, among other things, announce Colorado's Conservative Champion, its Republican Rambo, its Reagan Renagade yes folks prepare yourselves for this weeks WEDNESDAY WARRIOR!

This weeks wednesday warrior hails from the distant land of Senate Distrct 13. It is none other than Scott Renfroe. While Scott is a newcomer to many political insiders, he won't be for long. Scott beat longtime political player Dale Hall in last summers Republican primary and went on to absolutely trounce his opponent in the general. I'd give you a name for the guy Scott beat in the general, but I don't recall it, you see the beating Scott gave the guy was so bad that it caused memory loss of all things not Scott Renfroe.

All kidding aside, Scott really does have a bright future ahead of him. He is a true Conservative, instantly likable, extremely smart, and unlike many of our representatives is quite keen politically. For those of you in the game, ignore Scott at your own peril.

Three Quick Facts About Scott Renfroe (unashamedly taken from a Chuck Norris site)
1.There is no theory of evolution, just a list of animals Scott allowed to live.
2.Scott Renfroe can lead a horse to water AND make it drink.
3. Scott is the reaon why Waldo is hiding.

Abortion Ban falls in Committee

Senator Scott Renfroe's ban on abortion-on-demand, SB07-143 was killed in committee last night.

Despite moving testimony in favor of the bill, it was killed on a 4-3 party line vote.

Read the RMN's story here.

From the story:

Chelsea Warne, 17, who was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, said no one, including her mother, had the right to decide if her life had value or if she would be a burden on society.

''If I have no value nestled in my mother's womb how can I have value in a world who sees me as broken, a mistake, and somehow less?'' said Warne, who plans to enter the pre-nursing program at the University of Northern Colorado in the fall. [Emphasis added]

Renfroe's principled stand got coverage last night on CBS4.

The Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 1:30pm today, in SCR352.
